Can I bring items to club meetings to show?
Yes! The SCC does not have coin shows, however the SCC does encourage members to “show & tell” numismatic items at most regular monthly meetings. Each month there is a suggested “Table Topic” for these displays (see the meetings calendar), however, the monthly displays can also feature new acquisitions or Pacific Northwest. And if you’re not sure about the identification of an item or what’s it’s worth, you may be able to get opinions and suggestions from club members.
Are there prizes for items shown or displayed?
Yes! One member is selected to receive a special prize in a random drawing from among those who bring items to “show & tell,” and an additional award is also made based on the votes of club members. This is a very popular and interesting feature at SCC meetings. To avoid excessively lengthy meetings, each member should limit discussion of their items to about one or two minutes. Members who have more to say about their collecting specialty should consider volunteering to give a program.
What other numismatic exhibiting options are available?
For collectors who wish to “take it to the next level” with showcase-style educational exhibits, the Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association and the American Numismatic Association have judged competitive exhibiting at their annual conventions and coin shows. See the PNNA exhibit page for more information. An option to exhibit non-competitively is also available.
Can photos of items be shown on this website?
Yes! Although the SCC hasn’t photographed “show & tell” items like some other clubs (see the Tacoma-Lakewood Coin Club gallery for example), we may start photographing some items, including the highest vote-getting display each month. We may create a separate “show & tell” page on this website, or we may start writing blog posts with photos for monthly meetings.
