Over its 90-year history, the Seattle Coin Club has mourned the passing of many prominent numismatists. Two of the best remembered in recent years are Del Cushing and Bill McKivor. Both had numismatic careers spanning many decades starting in the 1950s or 1960s, both lived and worked in Seattle all or most of their life (Del for The Boeing Company and Bill for The Seattle Times), and both were active in several numismatic organizations, including the Seattle Coin Club, the Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association and the American Numismatic Association.
Del Cushing ( -2018)
Del and his wife Mary were well-known for their hospitality. Del’s numismatic specialty was tokens and exonumia, including especially Seattle Tokens and Northwest Exonumia. A Boeing employee, he was very active with the Boeing Employees Coin Club, assisting with its medals program, coin shows, and collector exhibits. He was also a PNNA editor for many years, and was the first to catalog PNNA memorabilia.

Bill McKivor (1940-2021)
Upon retirement from The Seattle Times, bill become a dealer, mostly in U.S. Colonials and British Tokens, and he was a fan of all things British, including his two British taxis! He famously organized a British Token Congress in Seattle in May 2009, inviting his British friends to attend. He was active in the Seattle Coin Club, the Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association and the Conder Token Collectors’ Club, among others. The CTCC website preserves a portion of Bill’s business website, which includes much information about British tokens and medals.
